The Sevier County 4-H Public Speaking Contest was held recently at the Sevier County Courthouse.
First, second and third place winners were named at each grade level and included:
4th grade; 1st place – Lilly Carroll, Sevierville Intermediate; 2nd place –Tyson McFall, Wearwood; 3rd place – Natalie Seals, Sevierville Intermediate.
5th grade; 1st place – Grady Branton, Catlettsburg; 2nd place – Avery Huskey, Sevierville Intermediate; 3rd place – Caitlin Carroll, Sevierville Intermediate.
6th grade; 1st place – Katelyn Hedrick, Homeschool; 2nd place – Rylie Jo Rawlings, Homeschool; 3rd place – Christian Brown, Sevierville Intermediate.
7th grade; 1st place – Dan Branton, Sevierville Middle.
8th grade; 1st place – Lindsey Hedrick, Homeschool; 2nd place – Brennan Allen, Sevierville Middle; 3rd place – Olivia Browning, Homeschool.
9th grade; 1st place – Caitlin Mora, Homeschool.
11th grade: 1st place – Rachel Jenkins, Pigeon Forge High School.
12th grade: 1st place – Victoria Clements, Sevier County High School.
This year 3,025 Sevier County 4-H Members presented speeches at the local level, while 60 participated at the county level. The Sevierville Sunrise Rotary Club sponsored the county speech contest by providing ribbons for all participants and plaques along with cash awards for the top speakers. Sunrise Rotarians, local business and community leaders served as judges.
The public speaking contest is one of many 4-H opportunities available to all 4th – 12th grade young people in Sevier County. For information about 4-H opportunities, call 453-3695.
