Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials rescheduled open houses that were canceled earlier this week due to the winter weather.
The public is invited to four open house opportunities in North Carolina and Tennessee to meet and welcome new Superintendent Cassius Cash to the Smokies.
“Great Smoky Mountains National Park is surrounded by incredible communities with a long tradition of supporting the park,” said Superintendent Cash. “I look forward to meeting and working with park neighbors as we continue building relationships and partnerships that enable us to protect this special place together.”
Cash came to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park after serving as Superintendent of Boston African American National Historic Site and Boston National Historical Park. He began the new position on Feb. 9, 2015.
The four community open house events will be held on the following dates from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.:
- Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the Historic Calhoun House in Bryson City, N.C.
- Thursday, Feb. 26 at the Calhoun’s Banquet Room in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
- Tuesday, March 3 at the Barn Event Center in Townsend, Tenn.
- Thursday, March 5 at the Oconaluftee Administration Building adjacent to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center near Cherokee, N.C.
Friends of the Smokies, Great Smoky Mountains Association, the Townsend-Walland Business Alliance, the City of Townsend, and the Historic Calhoun House are sponsoring the open house events. Light refreshments will be served.
