If someone tells you to “take a hike,” and it prompts daydreams of fresh air, sunshine, and autumn breezes, you might be ready to get serious about getting on the trails this spring. Covenant Health fitness expert Missy Kane is presenting Hiking 101 help East Tennesseans start hiking, improve health and fitness through hiking, or jump start new hiking groups.
“It burns up thousands of calories, strengthens your heart, muscles, and bones,” says Kane. “It also reduces stress, builds friendships, and it’s free!”
Kane is scheduled to present a Hiking 101 seminar at LeConte Medical Center, 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in the hospital classrooms. The program will cover everything from tips for new hikers, to trail suggestions for veterans.
“Hiking is one of the best healthy habits you can take up, and East Tennessee has thousands of trails to explore,” Kane says. “From Great Smoky Mountains National Park to Frozen Head to Panther Creek State Park or the nationally known local urban wilderness in South Knoxville, this is a perfect spot to take up hiking.”
The event is free, however you can brown bag your own lunch or buy your lunch at the LeConte Medical Center cafeteria (located across from the classrooms).
