Sevierville Police to Check Proper Installation, Safety of Child Car Seats on Saturday

Join the Sevierville Police Department on Saturday in an effort to keep your children as safe as possible while riding in a car by having child car seats inspected.

The City of Sevierville Police Department has scheduled a Child Car Safety Seat Inspection from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Cash One, 741 Dolly Parton Parkway in Sevierville (inside the Food City shopping complex).

Nationally, over 90% of child car seats are improperly installed. In fact, over 40% of child fatalities in traffic accidents are due to improperly installed child car seats. Inspectors have also learned that many child car seats are no longer safe due to past accidents, the age of the seat, manufacturer car seat recalls or missing parts.

Certified Sevierville Police Department officers will be on hand at the event to perform inspections of the child car seats, demonstrate proper installation techniques and offer general assistance.

“The SPD is committed to keeping our children safe, so when we determine that a child car safety seat is unsafe, we will provide a new seat to parents who cannot otherwise afford a replacement,” the department said in a release.

In addition to the above events, parents may also come to the Sevierville Police Department at 300 Gary Wade Blvd. in Sevierville for a seat inspection when a technician is available. Please call (865) 453-5507 in advance to ensure that a technician is on duty.
