Snow Making Begins for Ober Gatlinburg Snow Tubing

Ober Gatlinburg is already preparing for snow tubing season by utilizing new technology to make snow even though temperatures remain warm.

A full-service, year-round facility located in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park offers guests the unusual opportunity to snow tube well before the traditional opening date for slopes. Ober Gatlinburg’s investment in a new snow making technology from SnowMagic allows for snowmaking when temperatures are not yet ideal for snowmaking.

“Not only will these new compressors increase our air power to give us a better snow quality, it will also allow us to open more terrain faster when the temperatures cooperate,” said Winter Snowsports Director John Cossoboom.

This temperature-independent, snow crystal making system can run continuously in above-freezing temperatures. Ober Technicians relocated one of three SnowMagic units to the top of Cub Way, preparing for the best possible early season conditions. Ober Gatlinburg continues to reinvest in more efficient technology, adding four new energy-saving air compressors to their traditional snowmaking system.

“Guest experience and safety are our top priorities. By adding these improvements, we can ensure Snow Tubing will remain open if we repeat last December’s mild temperatures,” said President Bruce Anders.

Snow Tubing at Ober Gatlinburg opens November 21, 2015.

Ober Gatlinburg Ski Area and Amusement Park is Tennessee’s only ski resort and continues to be a favored year-round destination. Ober’s 6th annual Oktoberfest is in full swing now through November 1, 2015. Guests may enjoy multiple show times of The Bavarian Fun Makers Oompah Band every day while indulging in authentic German cuisine at Seasons of Ober Restaurant. Each weekend of Oktoberfest, Ober’s Bier Garten will feature different German biers and specialty souvenir items with fun and games for the entire family. The 4th annual “Back in Blue” Rail Jam will welcome skiers, snowboarders and spectators traveling from hours away to participate in various competitions on November 21, 2015.
