21 Tons of Food Donated for Sevier County Food Ministries

Wilderness at the Smokies and the Sevier County Food Ministries teamed up for a tremendously successful 2015 Holiday Food Drive this fall.

Wilderness at the Smokies offered the community twelve days throughout the months of October and November to bring five non-perishable food items per person in exchange for admission to the Wild WaterDome indoor waterpark. In doing this, the resort was able to collect over 42,000 pounds or 21 tons of food to support the Sevier County Food Ministry.

Jim Davis, Director of the Sevier County Food Ministries said, “This collection by Wilderness at the Smokies far exceeded anything which we had expected and has helped stock our warehouse with a variety of items which we don’t often have an opportunity to get. Our neighbors will benefit greatly as the holidays arrive and we are able to continue to assist more than 1,700 families each week with a bag of groceries. We are grateful to the management and staff at The Wilderness for their hard work and dedication, and we appreciate all the people who donated cans and boxes of food during this huge drive. This has been a blessing at the right time of year.”

First and foremost, Wilderness at the Smokies would like to thank the community for such an incredible turnout; also Food City, the Sevier County School System, the Sevierville Chamber, and the Pigeon Forge Chamber for their contribution in promoting the food drive. The resort looks forward to continuing their partnership to support the Sevier County Food Ministry for many years to come.
