Police are investigating a shooting at a Sevierville residence on Tuesday that left a woman severely injured and her husband dead.
Bob Stahlke, spokesperson for the Sevierville Police Department, said a woman called 911 at 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 to report that her husband had shot her, then he went into another room and she heard another gunshot. Stahlke said the woman was conscious and alert while she stayed on the phone with the dispatcher and waited for officers to arrive.
Police responded to the residence on Riverdale Drive to find the woman inside suffering from a wound in the area of her abdomen and hip that appeared to be from a single gunshot. She was taken by ambulance to the Gatlinburg–Pigeon Forge Airport where UT Lifestar picked her up for transport to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Her condition was not available.
Officers found a man they believe to be the woman’s husband in another room of the residence with what appeared to be a self-inflicted fatal gunshot wound.
According to Stahlke the investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate the husband shot his wife, then went into another room and shot himself.
Police withheld the identity of the couple pending notification of next of kin.
UPDATE June 29, 2016
The Sevierville Police Department has identified the couple as 67-year old Cheri P. Reeves, and her husband 74-year old Dixon F. Reeves.
