Hot Dog Recall affects Bar-S Hot Dogs and Corn Dogs Nationwide

A nationwide hot dog recall by Bar-S Foods Company has been issued because certain products may be contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

Bar-S Foods is recalling 372,684 pounds of certain packages of Bar-S Franks, Bar-S Corn Dogs and Signature Pick 5 Corn Dogs that were distributed to retail stores across the United States. Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled hot dog products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause listeriosis.

Listeriosis is a serious and potentially fatal infection that can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.

All of the recalled hot dogs and corn dogs were manufactured at the same Oklahoma facility during a four-day period. The company told regulators that it has not received test results in connection with the recalled products, but due to recurring Listeria problems at the facility, it has decided to remove the products from store shelves as a precautionary measure. There have been no confirmed reports of illnesses or adverse reactions due to consumption of the products.

Consumers should check their refrigerators and freezers for the recalled products and either discard them, or return them to the place of purchase.
