Hundreds Stand in Line for Sevierville ALDI Grand Opening

People started lining up before dawn on Wednesday for the grand opening of the new ALDI store.

Grocery retailer ALDI opened its first store in Sevierville on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 with a ribbon cutting and golden ticket giveaway. Hundreds of people stood in line for hours — the first 100 receiving a golden ticket containing an ALDI gift certificate — to get inside and shop. The first person in line had arrived at 4:15 a.m. and by the 8:45 a.m. ribbon cutting, the line stretched along the entire front of the shopping center. The store offered product tastings and handed out free reusable shopping bags.

“We are pleased to bring our first store to Sevierville to help customers get high-quality products at everyday low prices,” said Troy Marshall, Mt. Juliet division vice president for ALDI. “We challenge shoppers to switch from national brands to our high-quality exclusive brands and stretch their dollars without compromising quality. As important as price is, the only way to attract and keep shoppers is to have quality products.”
