Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Zoo Knoxville are coming together to offer a free elementary and middle school teacher workshop on expanding your classroom into the schoolyard. All elementary and middle school teachers are welcome to attend the workshop on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Zoo Knoxville.
Workshop activities include exploring the zoo using a provided camera to capture science and art through photography, learning how to use hardwood trees in scientific inquiry, discovering your local species and their seasonal adaptations, and how to incorporate the seasons into your curriculum. Each session will include hands on learning tools/techniques and resources to utilize your schoolyard as a classroom. Lunch, door prizes, free educational materials, and flexible in-service hours will be offered to all teachers who attend the workshop.
