A new feature on Facebook aims to help connect businesses with job seekers in their area by allowing them to post jobs right on their social media account.
Social media giant Facebook launched a jobs feature on Wednesday that allows admins of Facebook business pages in the United States and Canada to post jobs, and for Facebook users to search jobs in their local area using a radius, industry and job type.
“Businesses and people already use Facebook to fill and find jobs, so we’re rolling out new features that allow job posting and application directly on Facebook,” the company said. “It’s easy for Page admins to create a job post, track applications and communicate directly with applicants. After posting a job, Page admins will be able to review applications and contact applicants on Messenger, all on mobile and all in one place. And as with other posts, they can boost job posts to reach a larger or more relevant audience.”
Facebook said it tested the new jobs feature in limited areas of the U.S. and will expand across the country and Canada in the next few weeks. There is no charge for business pages to post jobs, but they may choose to pay for increased distribution to reach more potential applicants.
“It was great because it was easy,” says Wendy Grahn, co-owner of the Chicago-based Lakeview Kitchen and Market. “It took three minutes to fill out the information and put it out there. Then someone saw the post, we talked, and it was done.”
Jobs posted by business pages appear in the News Feed of Facbook users, in a new bookmark for jobs, and alongside other posts on the business page. An Apply Now button makes it easy for a user to apply for the job by opening a form already pre-populated with information from their profile on Facebook.
