The University of Tennessee Extension Sevier County Office is offering Free Diabetes Education Programs. A six-week series, entitled Take Charge of Your Diabetes will be held at the Pigeon Forge Public Library. Also, UT Extension is partnering with Food City to offer a supermarket tour for diabetics.
The series Take Charge of Your Diabetes will be offered Mondays, Feb. 27 – April 3, 2017 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Pigeon Forge Public Library, 2449 Library Drive in Pigeon Forge. Each week, participants learn skills necessary for daily self-managing diabetes. A variety of topics are explored, such as carbohydrate counting, monitoring blood sugar, and working with health care professionals. Participants are encouraged to attend all six classes.

Elizabeth Hall, Food City Registered Dietitian, will offer a Supermarket Tour at the Food City on Dolly Parton Parkway 10–11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7 where she will share practical tips on wise food purchases for diabetics. Information will include label reading, new market items, and simple meal ideas. This event is FREE also, but registration is requested.
