SMARM’s Annual Winter Coat Day to be Held Saturday in Sevierville

Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries will hold its 16th annual Winter Coat Day on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 from 9 a.m. to noon at Treasures From the Heart thrift store located at 230 Court Avenue in downtown Sevierville.

Free coats and jackets will be given to anybody who needs one. Last year hundreds of people came by to make a selection. Everyone who comes by can pick out a coat for themselves and family members. The event will be held rain or shine. Each year more than 2,000 coats and jackets are provided free of charge to anybody who needs one — no questions asked.

SMARM is a faith-based ministry that that provides one-on-one assessments and assistance with services such as short-term housing, utility assistance, transportation, food, and clothing. It was founded in 2001.

SMARM Executive Director Dick Wellons estimates the agency has given away more than 40,000 winter coats during the years it has held the event.
