Woman Charged with Robbery, Murder of Elderly Sevierville Man

A Sevier County Grand Jury has indicted a woman for the murder of an elderly man in Sevierville last month.

According to investigators, 38-year-old Krista Faye Owens, of Sevierville, allegedly shot Billy Joe Huskey, 75, inside his home on December 10, 2018. An unidentified female who was inside the home during the shooting fled to a neighbor’s home and called 911. Owens reportedly fled on foot before officers arrived.

Officers from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and Sevierville Police Department responded just after 3 p.m. and found Huskey inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville.

Owens was found in the nearby woods and arrested on an outstanding warrant, then held in the Sevier County Jail on those charges since that time.

After hearing the case, the Sevier County Grand Jury returned a sealed presentment on Wednesday for Owens for first degree murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary and attempted first degree murder in connection with Huskey’s death. Owens was set an additional $750,000 bond on the charges and will be arraigned in a Sevier County Circuit Court at a later date.
