The Sevier County Economic Development Council, along with its industrial partners, announce Industrial Week in the Great Smoky Mountains, a week to spotlight Sevier County manufacturers.
The hospitality industry is a major part of the successful economy in Sevier County. However, manufacturing employs hundreds of citizens and is another vital contributor to the economy. Did you know that Toyota parts, arcade games, engine valves, world famous sausage and industrial pipe hangers just are manufactured right here in our county?
Industrial Week will be held March 11-15, 2019. The majority of Sevier County manufacturers will be showcasing their products with tours to the general public and also accepting applications for employment. “Our goal for the week is to heighten the awareness of this important sector of our economy. Manufacturing offers great jobs to our citizens and the economic development council wants to insure that these opportunities are highlighted to every resident of Sevier County and the surrounding counties” said Allen Newton, executive director of the Sevier County Economic Development Council.
Most manufacturers are looking for qualified-skilled employees to fill the benefit-rich positions that are currently available. If you currently don’t have the skills for some of the jobs, most manufacturers will train you or there are some outstanding skills training opportunities that are available to adults and students alike. The Sevier County School System provides outstanding skills training through their CTE Program. Walter State Community College and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology has great opportunities to train those that have graduated from high school. There are also scholarships and grants that are available to help pay tuition.
“We invite parents of students currently enrolled in Sevier County’s high school CTE programs to visit a manufacturer with their student. Through these open houses, we want to showcase all of the great jobs that are available for students coming right out of high school. If you are looking for a job or for a career change we also encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to tour some of these facilities”, said Rick Harrell, chairman, Sevier County Economic Development Council.
