Human Remains Found in Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Authorities said on Monday that they are investigating unidentified human remains found in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

According to a release from park officials on Monday, July 8, 2019, an off-trail hiker found a human body while hiking off Laurel Creek Road and notified authorities. Searchers responded and found the unidentified human remains, which appear to be several months old.

Laurel Creek Road extends from Little River Road at the Townsend Wye to Cades Cove Loop Road.

The cause of death is under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
