Two Charged After Dumping Woman’s Body Near Sevier County Church

Two people are in custody in connection with a woman’s body found near a rural Sevier County church on Thursday morning.

According to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, the body found August 6, 2020 has been identified as 32-year-old Marissa R. Sutton of 1010 Indian Gap Circle in Sevierville. Investigators believe Sutton died of a drug overdose, but they are awaiting final results of the autopsy.

The investigation revealed that Sutton died at another location. Two individuals then transported Sutton’s body and placed her in the grass next to Oldhams Creek Missionary Baptist Church at 3629 Boogertown Road in Sevierville, where it was discovered at about 6:45 a.m. by a passing motorist.

Investigators allege that 51-year-old Robert S. Holmes and 33-year-old Amy J. Brumfield, of 103 Mills Park Road in Gatlinburg, dumped Sutton’s body. The two were arrested Thursday evening and charged with Abuse of a Corpse. They are held in Sevier County Jail pending arraignment in General Sessions Court. The investigation is ongoing.
