Gatlinburg Police Chief Randall Brackins says a woman found dead at a Gatlinburg resort over the weekend died from a self-inflicted injury.
A joint investigation by the Gatlinburg Police Department and agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation found that 40-year-old Stacey Renee (McAllister) Venable of Scottsboro, Ala. died of a self-inflicted stab wound to the chest.
Venable was found dead at the MountainLoft Resort after Gatlinburg Police officers responded to a call about 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2017 from a man who said he could not locate his wife. During a search of the hotel, Venable was found in an adjoining room and paramedics with the Gatlinburg Fire Department declared her deceased at the scene.
No other information was released.
Funeral services will be held for Venable on Thursday in Alabama.
