Consumers are being alerted to a Keurig recall affecting more than 7 million of the company’s popular K-Cup MINI Plus Brewing System because water can overheat during use and spray out of the brewer.
Keurig Green Mountain, Inc. is recalling model K10 of the MINI Plus Brewing System after receiving about 200 reports of hot liquid leaking from the brewer, including 90 reports of consumers suffering burn-related injuries.
“The satisfaction and safety of our consumers is our highest priority and we are committed to resolving this issue as quickly as possible,” Keurig said in a statement.
The K10 MINI Plus Brewing System is a single-serve, hot beverage brewer. It was available in 13 different colors. The units are about 11 inches tall with the water tank on the top, a “Brew” button, three-cup size options and a removable drip tray.
Consumers may have purchased this brewer at major retailers nationwide, including Kmart, Kohl’s Target and Walmart for about $100. It was also sold online at keurig.com, greenmountaincoffee.com and keurig.ca.
The recall affects about 6.6 million brewers sold in the United States and another 564,000 sold in Canada.
It is easy to identify the recalled Keurig brewers by locating the serial number sticker on the bottom of the unit. Recalled MINI Plus Brewing Systems have a serial number that begins with a “31.” They were manufactured between December 2009 and July 2014.
