National Park and Partners Offer Free Teacher Workshop

Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, and the Knoxville Zoo are coming together to offer a free elementary and middle school teacher workshop on expanding your classroom into the schoolyard. All elementary and middle school teachers are welcome to attend the workshop on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Knoxville Zoo.

Activities include a schoolyard bioblitz, beetle activity, data collection & mapping activity using your smart phone or tablet. The workshop will be using the natural resources of the Knoxville Zoo to teach science, technology, engineering, art, math, with little prep or supplies. Each session will include hands on learning tools/techniques and resources to utilize your schoolyard as a classroom. Light Breakfast, lunch, snacks, drinks, door prizes, free educational materials, and flexible in-service hours will be offered to the teachers who attend the workshop.

Please register for this teacher workshop by Friday, Oct. 30, 2015.
