Operation Spring Fever Nabs Drug Dealing Suspects

Local law enforcement officers launched a round up early yesterday morning after a six-month undercover sting dubbed Operation Spring Fever resulted in 73 indictments by a Sevier County Grand Jury.

The Sevier County Street Crimes Unit, a special task force made up of officers from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, and the police departments of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, conducted Operation Spring Fever. According to Sheriff Ron Seals, a Sevier County Grand Jury indicted 73 individuals at the conclusion of that undercover drug operation last week.

Task force officers, along with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; U. S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force; and the Tennessee Dept. of Corrections, set out before dawn on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 to round up the suspects and by the end of the day had 48 of 73 in custody. Officers were working to locate the remaining 25 individuals that were indicted.

Most charges against the drug round up suspects involved prescription painkillers, but some were Schedule I substances including heroin. In some cases, suspects allegedly sold counterfeit drugs. In February, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation warned of deadly counterfeit prescription drugs being circulated in the state.
